Meet Our Team
Peiwen Shih
There is an inspiring African proverb that resonates deeply with me: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This proverb encapsulates my vision for aLB and our collective success.
Meet Ms. Shih, the co-founder of aLB, who played a pivotal role in building the company from the ground up in 1999. Holding a degree in Political Science from National Chengchi University in Taiwan and a master’s degree in Communications from the University of Florida, Ms. Shih brings a diverse educational background and experience to her leadership role. Fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese, she effortlessly bridges cultural and linguistic gaps.
“As we embark on our journey to achieve great milestones, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by an extraordinary team of individuals who share our vision and drive. Together, we are determined to reach new heights and accomplish remarkable things."
Siu He
Ms. He, a valued member of the aLB team, finds inspiration in the Chinese phrase "健康就是财富" (jiànkāng jiùshì cáifù), which translates to "health is wealth" in English.
As the adept manager of the accounting department, Ms. He plays a vital role in ensuring the financial well-being of the organization. With her keen eye for detail and expertise in financial management, she brings valuable experience to her position.
Driven by the belief that good health is the ultimate form of wealth, Ms. He is committed to maintaining a balanced and sustainable financial ecosystem within aLB. Her diligent work and strategic financial planning contribute to the long-term stability of the company.
Min Eu
Meet Ms. Eu, a distinguished language professional and published translator with over two decades of expertise. Before joining aLanguageBank, she worked as a freelance translator and interpreter and taught translation and interpretation at the University of Maryland College Park and her alma mater, Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
Ms. Eu’s passion for languages began early. At 16, she fell in love with translation during a school assignment and made it her career choice by 17. She is grateful for her family's support, which allowed her to follow her passion in this unique field.
Now, as Chief Operations Officer at aLanguageBank, Ms. Eu channels her vast industry and teaching experience to drive innovation in language services. She believes that every translation or interpretation project bridges cultural gaps, bringing people closer together—a philosophy that continues to guide her work and shape the future of the industry.
Sylwia Macgiollabhui
Ms. Macgiollabhui’s favorite book is Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz, a novel translated into more than 50 languages that earned its author a Nobel Prize in Literature. The book’s title, which means "Where are you going?" deeply resonates with her, reflecting life as a continuous journey.
Originally from Poland, Ms. Macgiollabhui came to New York with plans to attend college. She went on to graduate from Hunter College with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. After gaining valuable experience in the corporate world, she now dedicates her expertise to aLanguageBank, where she helps onboard linguists as they embark on their own career paths.
Ms. Macgiollabhui’s journey reflects her commitment to fostering growth and development for both herself and the linguists she supports, ensuring they find their way in the global landscape of language and culture.
Dominic Manzolillo
“Una lingua diversa è una diversa visione della vita.” — Federico Fellini
(“A different language is a different vision of life.”)
This quote by Federico Fellini deeply resonates with Mr. Manzolillo, as it captures his appreciation for how language shapes understanding and perspective. Since joining aLanguageBank, he has found new meaning in connecting people through communication and culture every day.
As a Project Coordinator, Mr. Manzolillo ensures seamless project execution while fostering meaningful global connections. Of Italian and Guatemalan heritage, he brings a unique multicultural perspective to his work and takes great joy in learning about languages from around the world—particularly rare and uncommon languages—and values the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life.
Fluent in Italian and Spanish, Mr. Manzolillo embodies the spirit of multilingualism and cultural empathy. His bachelor's degree in International Communication from Baruch College has strengthened his belief that language is not merely a tool, but a bridge that connects humanity across borders.
Through his curiosity, compassion, and commitment to excellence, Mr. Manzolillo continues to contribute to the mission of aLanguageBank—building understanding, one word at a time.
Jack Savage
One of Jack’s favorite words is “Saudade”, a Portuguese term that carries a depth of emotion with no direct English translation. It expresses a profound sense of longing — a mix of love, distance, and memory.
“A saudade é o que faz as coisas pararem no tempo.”
“Saudade is what makes things stop in time.”
Jack is a Project Coordinator at aLanguageBank, where he helps bridge communication across languages and cultures. His role allows him to combine organization, empathy, and curiosity — values that guide his professional approach.
For Jack, saudade represents more than nostalgia. It’s about appreciation, connection, and the beauty of what endures even when apart. That same mindset inspires his work at aLanguageBank: ensuring that language not only conveys meaning, but also preserves the heart behind every word.
Odalys Nunez
“Si haces treinta, hace treinta y uno” was a phrase my grandmother loved, and I have come to appreciate and understand. The literal meaning is, “If you do thirty, do thirty-one”, what exactly you are doing is not specified, but the intention is to always reach and do more than you had originally set yourself out for.
Ms. Nunez is a NYC native raised in Paraguay, where she grew up speaking Spanish and Guarani. Her passion for languages began in middle school as she wanted to read a book series that was not translated in Spanish, so she decided to read the original English work. She then had the opportunity to begin her high school studies in NYC learning English alongside French. Ms. Nunez continued with her interests in languages at the University of Delaware, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Three Languages, Spanish, French, and Japanese.
Now, she seeks to use her linguistic skills and interest to assist the team as a Project Coordinator at aLanguageBank, always hoping to do more than originally intended.
Samuel Haecker
Samuel Haecker is drawn to a whole host of so-called ‘untranslatable’ words, though he is a firm believer that every concept can be found in every language. One of his favorites is the German ‘Fernweh’, which describes the feeling of longing one has for a faraway place. This can be a place one has been to in the past or somewhere that might be entirely foreign to the speaker. Mr. Haecker feels that much of aLanguageBank’s work hinges on ensuring that all cultures and languages are represented, no matter how far away they might feel.
Growing up across the US and Germany speaking (and translating) Spanish, German, and English, Mr. Haecker is now an Assistant Project Manager with aLanguageBank after completing an MFA in Writing Poetry and Literary Translation at Columbia University. His love for translating poetry has only now been equated by his desire to provide language access to underrepresented communities, and his experience at aLB has been punctuated by a penchant for sourcing low-density languages and providing effective solutions for all things language.
